Exams

You will have the choice of a take-home or a sit-down; I will prepare both.

The scheduled exam is Monday April 23, 2007 at 9:00AM in WC31. You can bring in one 8 1/2 X 11 sheet of paper, written or printed on one side.

The take-home will be handed out last class and will be due by the start of the scheduled exam. In other words, if you don’t have a paper in hand by 9am on the 23rd, come in and make yourself comfortable!

The take-home will be one essay question that draws in a number of plays; the scheduled exam will have more questions but the focus will be on essay questions. Both will offer a considerable degree of choice.

I would appreciate a tentative indication of your plans, though you retain the option until the 23rd.

Papers

Just had an email from one of you wondering about the possibility of extensions. I am willing to extend a blanket extension of one week, and more if particular individuals need it. But I don’t want any of you to get into a bind at the end of term, so try to keep that in mind.

Anyone have nothing to do for three nights

and interested in being a stage hand? The other one-act play that is on with No Exit needs two people for simple but essential tasks. Let me know!

Opportunity to acquire culture and extra marks

As many of you will know, our own Emily D. will be performing this week in Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie. And next week — will the thrills never stop?!? — Drs. Bell, Goud, and I will appear, along with Tim Turnell, in Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit. Go and see both plays. That is the culture part.

Here is the marks part: mere attendance at the play will garner you 1 per cent added to your final grade for the course (2 plays = 2%). A short review of a paragraph or so, posted to your blog, will garner you an extra point, for a total of two per cent (two plays = 4 %).

It’s win-win.
